Practical work on Explanation Writing
12th May 2025
This morning, P5 and P6 developed their understanding of Explanation Writing.
Firstly, the children worked in groups to recap the definition of explanation writing. Following this, the boys and girls learned about how a violin produces sound. Mrs Farrell and Miss Bloomfield showed the children the various parts of a violin and played a duet. The pupils then rotated around 6 different stations and completed a range of activities which included:
Labelling parts of a violin (as Explanation texts often use diagrams)
Ordering the stages of how a violin produces sound
Exploring the Dallas Symphony Orchestra website
Completing a violin jigsaw and labelling parts
Investigating the effect of tension on sound (using tissue boxes and rubber bands)
Playing a violin
Well done P5/6!
